
Fostering sustainable bond issuances in Asia-Pacific

Specifically, under UN ESCAP's project on 'Scaling up Climate Finance in Asia-Pacific: Enabling policies and financing instruments to support climate adaptation and mitigation', the LGX Academy works to support Asia-Pacific countries to strengthen the enabling environment for the development of green financing instruments and supportive policy measures to bridge the climate and UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) financing gap in the region.

This 2-day in-person training welcomed 100 participants from Mongolia's financial sector. It focused on CSR reporting aligned with IFRS S1 and S2 standards and the integration of ESG risks into risk management frameworks. The LGX Academy also provided assistance in the drafting of guidelines and a reporting template to help financial institutions disclose ESG risks effectively. Emphasis was placed on sharing international best practices and fostering peer-to-peer learning to support Mongolia’s alignment with sustainable finance standards.

This 2-day in-person training saw 46 participants in attendance with the objective of supporting Tajikistan stakeholders better understand sustainable bond issuance practices in alignment with market best practices and related support. Emphasis was placed on sharing international best practices, to allow stakeholders to exchange and learn from the experience of peer countries.

This 3-day in-person training, the first involving the LGX Academy to take place in Bhutan, saw a range of government stakeholders involved in government financing, and will be involved in the sustainability bond issuance process, in attendance. Private sector stakeholders interested in bringing their own private green, social or sustainability bonds to the market benefited from this training.

LGX Academy contributed to the UN ESCAP Feminist Finance Forum 2024 delivering a master class on the concrete usage of sustainable debt instruments for gender related investments. Through various initiatives, including the launch of a gender-focused bond flag on the security cards of sustainable securities displayed on the Luxembourg Green Exchange (LGX), the session highlighted securities that allocate all or a portion of their financing to concrete projects and strategies that advance gender equality and women's empowerment, and contribute to UN SDG 5 (Gender equality).
The session was attended by around 40 participants and highlighted concrete case studies from Thailand and India among others.

This 2-day, in-person, training took place in Phnom Pen in Cambodia. The programme was structured to accompany participants into their journey of potential issuance of a sustainable bond. A mixture of lectures and working sessions took place to foster an interactive and participatory approach and to make participants engage and make concrete choices that formed the foundation of their sustainable bond issuance journey.
