Wilfried Trombini on innovation through collaboration
In this series, we sit down with some of our colleagues at the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) to talk about how they came to work at our exchange, what life at LuxSE is like for them and what they appreciate the most about their jobs.
In this next instalment of our 'Life at LuxSE' series, we sat down with Wilfried Trombini, Senior Architect in LuxSE’s Digital Business Solutions department to find out more about his nearly 15 years of experience at our exchange.
Wilfried’s journey to LuxSE
Wilfried first walked through the doors of LuxSE when we were in a completely different location, just off the main shopping street of Luxembourg’s city centre. Safe to say that a lot has happened at our exchange since 2008 and Wilfried has seen it all.Fascinated by IT for as long as he can remember, he always knew that his journey would lead him to a career in technology.
Even though Wilfried is a pillar of our Digital Business Solutions (DBS) department, it was only in 2017 that he hung up his external consultant hat and became a fully-fledged employee of LuxSE after working in our offices for 8 years as a consultant.
“When I joined, my role was all about drawing up, designing and supporting the development activities. As you can imagine, technology has changed a lot in the last 15 years, so I’ve had the opportunity to witness and contribute to LuxSE’s digital transformation first hand.”
Heading towards the cloud(s)
In 2021, LuxSE became the first financial institution in Luxembourg to migrate its entire technical infrastructure to the cloud, and Wilfried had a big hand in making this achievement a reality.“We knew that it was ambitious but on top of being a leading international exchange, we are also a leader when it comes to technology. The cloud migration project is a testament to that.”
The idea for the project started back in 2018, with Wilfried forming a key part of the project team from the very beginning, helping to set out goals and planning each stage of the complex migration. It was a massive team effort organised in a way to make sure no one had the feeling they were working alone.
“That’s the really nice thing about life at our exchange. We have committed and talented people across all our teams that are always open to help where they can and collaborate.”
Getting involved in the bigger picture
Keeping on the topic of collaboration, Wilfried is quick to reflect fondly on the company-wide Strategy Days that we held in 2022 as well as his ongoing work as a member of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee.During our Strategy Days, which saw 120+ LuxSE employees gather at Luxembourg’s House of Startups, Wilfried acted as a facilitator during the brainstorming sessions related to IT. It was during these sessions that employees were able to meet up, get the creative juices flowing and propose new ideas that may be interesting to add to LuxSE’s business strategy going forward.
“I had taken part in something similar a number of years ago but this time it was completely different! These sessions were a good way to show the power of human collaboration and some really interesting ideas emerged from it.”
Also conscious of contributing to a broader part of LuxSE that aligns with his personal goals, Wilfried joined the CSR Committee in 2019 and has taken part in multiple CSR initiatives since then. He is also famous across LuxSE for bringing freshly baked treats to get people motivated to sign up for CSR projects.
